Hayward ball valves are available in several high-performance thermoplastic materials. The right material choice depends on chemical compatibility, temperature, pressure, and UV exposure. Use the quick comparison below, then review the detailed descriptions.

Quick Materials Comparison

Material Max Temp Chemical Resistance Best For
PVC 140°F Good for many acids, bases, and salts General water, wastewater, irrigation
CPVC 200°F Better than PVC at higher temperatures Hot water, industrial process fluids
Polypropylene (PP) 180°F Excellent for many organic solvents and acids Chemical processing, plating
PVDF 300°F Outstanding chemical and abrasion resistance High-purity and aggressive chemicals

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)

PVC is the most common material for ball valves in water and wastewater applications. It offers good chemical resistance to many acids, bases, and salts at moderate temperatures. Maximum operating temperature is typically 140°F. It is economical and widely used for irrigation, pools, and general plumbing.

CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride)

CPVC offers higher temperature resistance than standard PVC (up to 200°F) while maintaining excellent chemical resistance. It is a popular choice for hot water lines and industrial process applications where PVC would be marginal.

Polypropylene (PP)

Polypropylene provides excellent resistance to many organic solvents and acids. It has good impact strength and is commonly used in chemical processing, metal finishing, and applications where metal contamination must be avoided.

PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride)

PVDF is a high-performance fluoropolymer with outstanding corrosion, chemical, and abrasion resistance. It has excellent mechanical and thermal stability with a maximum operating temperature of 300°F. PVDF is ideal for high-purity applications and aggressive chemical service.

Other Materials

Hayward also offers valves in other materials such as PTFE-lined, fiberglass-reinforced, and various elastomers for seals and seats (EPDM, FPM/Viton, etc.). Contact us for guidance on the best combination for your specific media and conditions.
